Project FUEL™ on Instagram: "Sometimes, we just have to accept the plot twists of life and bravely dance through unexpected chapters that come our way with a Shikata Ga Nai attitude!

Do you agree? What would it be like to live your life according to the Shikata Ga Nai philosophy? 🤔

In an interesting article written by David On Cyber about Japanese concepts that can fire self-motivation, we came across this Japanese word which is actually related to Greek philosophy — stoicism.
Stoicism is about things you can control versus things beyond your control. Accept what you cannot change, let go and move on.

The world around us keeps changing. We cannot entirely control situations occuring around us. Or can we? It’s debatable. We know.

But what's in our control? We can accept and adapt. W Shikata Ga Nai Tattoo, Shikata Ga Nai, Philosophy Stoicism, Greek Philosophy, Circular Art, Japanese Word, Japanese Words, Plot Twist, Article Writing

Totally loving my previously discovered Japanese philosophies of Wabi Sabi & Ikigai. I am thrilled to see that they have another philosophy for a very fundamental part of the work I do. Shikata ga nai - the letting go of what we cannot change/It cannot be helped/nothing can be done about it. In my 1:2:1 sessions I invite people to imagine emptying out their bag of shit and each ‘stone’ landing on one or other of two plates (inspired by Stephen Covey’s work). MATOKA 〰️マトカ on Instagram: "Phrases that will make you TRULY JAPANESE!

I feel like you will hear these words or phrases pretty often when you're talking to Japanese people. And the reason is that there is a lot of cultural meaning to these phrases too.

For example, our first phrase, Shikata ga nai, meaning "it can't be helped", is more rooted in the Japanese mindset that you shouldn't stress over things that you cannot control. In English, we have the similar phrase "don't sweat the small stuff", but honestly I feel that the Japanese embody this phrase a lot more than Western culture...or they just overuse it 🤣

What other Japanese phrases do you think make you "truly Japanese"? Let me know in the comments!
