someone is trying to cut the ribbon off of their high heeled shoe with scissors

Making miniature shoes for my ball-jointed dolls is one of my favorite costume-making activities. I've been trying to incorporate even more intricate details into my designs. I feel that those details can elevate the doll to a new level. So today, I want to show you how I made these platform heels f

a pair of white high heels sitting on top of a blue cutting mat next to scissors

I started the process for making moulds for Sybarite's shoe soles. The first step is to create a master, that is, a model of the sole. I've made a couple of these and this post shows the making of a stiletto heel. I am making a universal master, a sole that is the same for left and right foot, because this is difficult enough without having to try to make two pieces that are mirror images of each other. First I carved the heel out of fairly hard wood. I often use balsa wood for making a…

step by step instructions on how to make doll socks

How I make shoes for my 1/6 scale dolls. -1 White glue, white teflon/plumbers tape , saran wrap. -2 cover the doll's feet with saran wrap. -3 wrap them with teflon tape -4 start adding glue layers ( i usually need 4 or 5) -5 I usually pour the glue directly from the bottle, don't try to make the layers too thick or the glue will drip down. Wait until the glue is completely dry before adding new layers. -6 remove the shoes from the doll's feet. If you're making boots insert small scissors…

an old pair of green shoes sitting on top of a table

Thanks for hanging around while I was gone. I am going to try to get back to posting a few times each week. I wanted to share the leather boot crafting with you, we've done this before but here it is again. Start with a pattern made to fit your figure so you can play with the style and shape of the boot. I prefer to just jump in and work directly so here goes. The body of the boot or shoe will look best if made of a thinner grade of leather - in this case, I use glove grade leather which is…

several different types of toothbrushes on a cutting board next to some other items

What I forgot to mention in the last post is that I don't recommend the silicone I used for making these moulds. The red stuff I used earlier (see my home page) was much easier to work with and that was the first time I was making this kind of moulds. I think that silicone was manufactured by hobbytime, but I'm not quite sure. I am sure that I will try to find better silicone for the next time, if there is going to be a next time. Rai-Ro web shop sells two component silicone, which sounds…

the pattern for mary - ann zannah walker shoes is shown in red and black

I've been working, on and off, for the last couple or weeks on some small footwear. Mary, my Izannah walker style doll can be made with bare feet, or painted boots, and the bare foot girl has been very patiently waiting for some shoes to add to her wardrobe. Mary - Izannah Walker Inspired Although many of the original Izannah Walker dolls have painted, laced ankle boots, I noticed that so many pictures of girls from the mid 19th Century showed them wearing ankle strap shoes, so I thought…
