Gropius and the Architects Collaborative, the firm Walter Gropius founded in 1954 after immigrating to the U.S., received a commission from the government to build a new federal building in Boston in 1961. The modern structure, which is made up of two 26-story towers and a four-story building, was completed in 1966 and dedicated in honor of President John F. Kennedy.
