A new preacher is expected at Noose Gap. His coming is rather startling. Some desperadoes try to hold up the stagecoach in which he is traveling. Being driven off, they make straight for "The Lost Angel." The stage driver suspects their destination, and he and the minister rush into the saloon just as one of the rascals is embracing Eliza, and they clean out the place. One of them, however, succeeds in landing a knockout blow on the Dominie. Eliza comes to his aid. The stage driver notices this and is jealous. The boys at the Gap are very sore at the young preacher's introduction to them, but he pays little heed to their objections and points out to them that they should turn from Darkness into Light. At one of his meetings, Eliza is very much moved. In fact the light has been coming to her gradually through reading the little Bible the young parson has given her. The stage driver gets an idea that "The Gospel Dispenser" is his rival. The "roughnecks" do not take kindly to the religious atmosphere about the Gap and one of them, who felt the force of his muscular Christianity at the Lost Angel, decides to put an end to him. With a boon companion, this fellow goes out upon a secluded roadway to fill the preacher with lead and give the undertaker a job. Eliza has overheard the plot and determines to foil it. She arrives just as the disgruntled bad man is taking deadly aim. She steps forward into the road, receiving the shot. The two desperadoes, seeing the effect of their dastardly work, hasten to make good their escape. The preacher rushes to Eliza's assistance, getting a doctor to her as quickly as possible. The stage driver sorrowfully hears of her self-sacrifice, and learns from the doctor that she is fatally hurt. As the three men stand around her bedside, she tells them of her faith in God, passing peacefully away through the Valley of the Shadow into the Light of Eternal Life.
