about
This single is super important to us. I think everyone has felt anger toward an ex-partner, for whatever reason, & the isolation that comes after separating from an important person in your life can feel really deafening sometimes. For us, this song was about the process after that separation, and how that hurt and anger is not only okay to feel, but oftentimes a big part of healing. The important part is recognizing you have those negative feelings, and doing the work to make them constructive so that you’re able to come out on the other side with a positive learning experience. A little more sunshine.
lyrics
When all your cards are gone
and you're bad on your own,
you had one too many people tell you
you were special.
And all of this time,
I've got nothing on my mind.
I don't call you anymore,
that line is empty.
Take your shit and go,
you oughta have someone tell you
you ain't special no more.
Oughta have someone tell you
you ain't special no more.
Your bedroom's cold
like graveyard stones
they're buried underneath
they look nothing like me.
You take up arms
like love's a cavalry
But your shit
ain't got nothin' to do with me.
I will not hate the weather
just 'cause you won't go outside.
Take yourself right out my broken heart,
'cause if you can't be good to me I'm gone.
And next time don't you let her fall in love,
'cause you've got nothing left in you but dust.
Take your shit and go,
You outghta have someone tell you
you ain't special no more,
oughta have someone tell you
you ain't special no more.
No more.
