For the last 7 years, our basement has been completely overtaken by our children. Toys everywhere, plenty of stains, very little decor, and plenty of neglect. We never cared what it looked like because it was covered in toys regardless. Why put the effort in, right? Well my family is growing up and our needs […]
Guys, I'm so excited! Look at the new ceiling in my Piano room! What a big improvement over the unsightly acoustic tile, suspended ceiling that was there before! This ceiling was SO easy to install

The original ceiling was from the 1960's. We removed it all, used brackets and 2x4's to drop the ceiling 2 inches, built the frames from 1x6's and used drywall for the ceiling tiles. They can be pushed up and slid over to access the ceiling cavity. We also replaced florescent tube lighting with led lighting on dimmers.

Replacing Drop Down Ceiling Tiles (again!) We had this old outdated drop down ceiling in our basement that I initially wanted to rip out. But I really didn’t want to do drywall work on a ceiling. Emily and Shane hated their textured ceilings, but felt stuck with them because they weren’t ready to deal with the mess and trauma of drywalling. Finally, they just couldn’t take any more of those ceilings, “staring down at us,” so they took a gamble on another option, and boy, did it pay off. They covered it with beadboard! What a great way to give the ceiling a beautifully coffered look with surprisingly little effort and money.
I really did not want a drop ceiling. My husband did not want to sheetrock the ceiling in case we ever needed to get at the pipes etc. We came up with the idea of painting the ceiling black and we love it. It doesn't darken the space at all. And it actually gives more height since we didn't do the drop ceiling so it feels more open. We've since covered the black pole with heavy duty jute. You can find more on that in another one of my posts!
I was so tired of my ugly drop ceiling, but I didn't want to spend thousands on a new ceiling! First, take out your old tiles and measure them. Then head to…
