I make these eggshell candles every year for Elliot’s birthday since his birthday always falls really close to Easter. Eggshells are a wonderful low waste option for making candles— after they’ve completely burned down you can just crush them and add them to your garden soil (after removing any wick tabs). These will burn for 3-4 hours, depending on how shallow your eggshell halves are/how much wax you use. Quick instructions are below and full tutorial is on the blog.

I actually used both chicken and duck eggs for these and loved the larger candles I got from the ducks!

Some tips for these, as they can be a little finicky.

Make sure your shells are clean and dry after removing the eggs. When poking a hole on the top with the needle, you’ll need a gentle force. Make sure you have extra shells as some are bound to break at this step.

Sticky tack is the best for sealing the hole after threading your wick through. We love it as a reusable alternative to tape in our home, and our kids also love playing around with it to make things out of junk 🤖🦾

After the beeswax dries, you may need to top a few off as some holes can form. Totally normal!
