9" French Fashion Doll parasol. Recovered with cotton/silk woven stripe fabric and trimmed with antique lace and silk floss tassels

This Chantilly lace parasol was made in France, ca.1860–69. This is a carriage parasol and was meant to keep the sun off your face, but these could be put to dramatic use by the holder - looking out jauntily from underneath or framing your face. Carriage parasols were all the rage after Queen Victoria started using them in the 1840s.
