1940’s bathroom

My 1949 house has original yellow and maroon tile in the bathroom. With "sponge paint" walls and a maroon vanity to match. I'd like to paint the walls, put in a much larger mirror and update the vanity - maybe just with paint and a new top. Thoughts on colors to use? Any other advice?

Back in the late 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, a family friend’s grandma, Verna Mae, compiled a scrapbook full of clippings of home decorating ideas she liked from magazines, ads, and catalogs.
