the bathroom is clean and ready to be used as a guest room or family room

My 1949 house has original yellow and maroon tile in the bathroom. With "sponge paint" walls and a maroon vanity to match. I'd like to paint the walls, put in a much larger mirror and update the vanity - maybe just with paint and a new top. Thoughts on colors to use? Any other advice?
