Free multi-pane file explorer for Windows extra
Power users often find the standard Windows File Explorer too limited and need a more complete file manager to suit their needs. If you're among them look no further because we've got the right app for you with Q-Dir.
Q-Dir is a multi-pane file manager for Windows that makes file management more convenient and above all, far more comfortable for you. Having several windows pointing to different locations on your hard drive makes it much easier to move or copy data from one folder to another, and also makes browsing faster. Q-Dir supports different layouts with 2, 3 o 4 panes and each one of them can be configured separately.
Q-Dir doesn't really add any extra function to the ones already featured in Windows Explorer, but there's one special feature I did like: the possibility to show files in different colors according to the file type, such as blue for images, red for music and so on. Plus, this color code is totally customizable.
Q-Dir doesn't require installation and can even been run from a USB stick.
Though it doesn't feature any special tool, Q-Dir is still a more complete file manager with multiple panes and customizable color codes for file types.
changes: Open Quick-Link's in new tab via midl mouse button Open Folders via Folder menu in new tab via midl mouse button Disable Transparent Selection (at W7/Vista) via Menu/Extras/List-View Too long path, we shortened the text in the title bar correctly eg ../../file.xxx pros: Multi-pane interface makes file management easier, Several layouts to choose from, Color code for files cons: No extra tools like you find in other Explorer alternatives
Q-Dir makes your files and folder easy to manage. Fast and easy access, with an amazing Quadro-View technique.
You don't have to renounce the usual, Drag and Drop, all Views, and other functions of your system. No! Q-Dir gives you other nice functions, that make you happy. One can save many hand moves and also time!
Q-Dir does not have to be installed and can be executed easily from the desktop. Rename Q-Dir_Installer.exe to Q-Dir.exe and GO. It's a small famous utility for Windows PC-s and also an USB-stick friend. Moreover, it is also Windows 11 compatible.

I dunno... looks a lot like Total Commander which I've been using for last 25 years...
MoreDid you rip off Total Commander? ;)

Once you use it you got it FOREVER..
MoreNot a bad program but decided it was not for me. BUT after deleting this supposedly portable program's files I found numerous registry entries I am still working to eliminate. Since its portable none of my uninstallers see it. You better like this program cause you may very well have it forever.
Pros:
works OK
Cons:
No way to remove portable program

Good program.
MoreThis program has option to save settings/dir/everything as a shortcut (.qdr file), i like it so i has couple qdr in my desktop for easy browsing dir/files. Q-Dir is the best Explorer Replacement (ER) in my opinion, because i hate bloated and slow ER. I've used most ER on earth like Total Commander which is the best in functionality, or ExplorerPlusPlus which is simplest but no DualView. They are all good, but i always ended in Q_Dir.
@ Matt Perkins: turn off/on auto expand in Extras/TreeView/SelectFolderFromList (and expand)
Pros:
- qdr creation
- Fast as Explorer.exe
- Smallest FootPrint
- Has options/functionality that i need
Cons:
I think some new user will found some problems with the interface and options. they must try it one by one unless they found "...more option" and sometimes they ended with wierd/hard to use configuration.

Q-Dir is an inferior application.
MoreI read all the reviews thinking "wow, this application is so useful and yet it's free." I went ahead to download and install it. Well, sometimes you have to actually use one to verify for yourselve. I verified it myself and decided to uninstall the good-for-nothing application. It never worked. It froze each time I try to experiment to see how good it was with lots and lots of reviews.
