Ranking the Shrek Films
Everyone's favorite Ogre started off as a little book that is pretty much nothing like the movie. Shrek came burping onto the big screen and we've been in love ever since. So let's rank these films!
6 Shrek the Third
I
don’t despise this movie; but, I do believe it is the worst of the saga. I have
never liked Justin Timberlake. I don’t really like his whiny character, Arthur.
I think this movie tries to accomplish too much. I do like exploring Shrek as a
new leader of Far Far Away in the beginning. I also like some other aspects of
more fairy tale characters show up and Shrek becoming a father. However, it’s a
whirlwind and there is just a lot to follow and loses the charm and comedy.
5 Shrek: Forever After
I
like the storyline here better than the 3rd. I think it is more
focused. While we have seen this storyline before in “It’s A Wonderful Life”
and other movies throughout the years this one feels a little truer to form for
the Shrek saga. Yet, I still think there are problems here. It is still not on
the level of the first two films. The comedy isn’t as great, and neither is the
soundtrack.
4- Puss in Boots
I
like this story. I think it’s clever and a nice new version of the classic
story of Puss in Boots. Puss is a prequel to Shrek 2 (and possibly Shrek- it
doesn’t give us enough detail to decide). I had fun with this movie. I don’t
necessarily love it; but, I liked the action/adventure Zorro-like feel that
this movie had.
3- Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
This movie kept me entertained from start to finish. It is a perfect addition to the Shrek saga. I 100% loved it!
2- Shrek 2 1- Shrek (virtually tied)
I had such a huge problem picking whether to put this at #2 or #1. I almost said tie. I then went to Instagram and did a poll and let you all break the tie. I love these 2 movies so much. I still watch the first two Shrek films frequently. In 2019, I had a Shrek and Waffles party. It was so fun! Rarely do sequels live up to the original and I guess that might be the case here, but it took me going to Instagram and letting you all break the tie so obviously both great films. I do like this original it is a classic at this point. I remember just going to the movie to see it with my uncle and cousin not really excited about it, but I ended up liking it a lot. These 2 movies have made their impact on my generation and pop culture. I love the characters, the writing, the comedy. These movies are just so fun! I also like the soundtracks in both films!
What do you all think? Do you
think I’m correct?
