Epic Death Guard Mastodon
Supported by a maniple of Deredeo dreadnoughts a Mastodon super heavy transport of the Death Guard legion advances into no mans land.
I had never planned to get a big transport model like the Mastodon for my epic Death Guard forces. I had plenty of Land Raiders for ground based assaults, and was planning to get some Thunderhawks and Storm Eagles (and possibly a Stormbird some day) for air assaults. Plus I have this idea of Mortarion crashing into the enemy with a heap of terminators in a couple of Caestus Assault Rams that I want to try out. But then I had this idea that the Mastodon could double as a Plague Tower in Epic 40k era games, so decided to get one.

Epic Deredeos
Deredeo dreadnoughts of the Death Guard legion searching for targets.
Dreadnought maniples within the legion were typically composed of a mix of contemptor and deredeo assets when deployed in the field. Full deredeo maniples such as the one shown here, while a rare sight, were fielded when specific objectives were required. These deredeos are all armed with the anvilus autocannon battery and aiolos missile launcher, suggesting that they have been designated an anti vehicle air defence role. This type of maniple was often used to support initial planetfall attacks, and then defend the territory taken until heavier reinforcements were landed and the deredeos could be relieved.
Clash with Reality
It's been a long time since I have added to this blog, a little over six months in fact.
I'd like to say that things in the painting queue have been progressing in that time, but unfortunately they haven't. Not much anyway. Reality trumps hobby sometimes.
But I remain a loyal follower of Nurgle, so let's see how my pledge for 2017 went...

Epic Eldar Rangers
Xenos eldar scouts from the Saim-Hann Craftworld sighted on Neu-Diemenslandt. The scouts of the eldar forces on Neu-Diemensland are believed to have been present for some time, prior to their discovery. The eldar often use scouts such as these as forward observers prior to full scale invasions.

Hawks and Spears and Vypers, oh my!
So I have had often wondered how many epic bases I can bash out in one beer and podcast fuelled painting frenzy. It turns out the answer is 21!

Jetbikes, flagpoles and bread clips
I have been procrastinating for a while now over how to represent shining spear jetbikes in my epic games.
After a few drafts I am starting to settle on something like the following...

Eldar Tempests
An Eldar Xenos superheavy class grav tank sighted on the Imperial Prison Colony world of Neu Diemenslandt. While no engagements have taken place with the Eldar to date, the presence of superheavy vehicles indicates that there is a high probability of a significant battle soon.

Shadowswords!
Imperial Shadowswords of the 9th Necromundan Superheavy (Black) company traverse the ash wastes of Neu Diemensland. These tanks show several signs that they have been deployed as a part of the Necromundan regiment for some time, including gang markings painted on the armoured panels, engine kill markings predominantly displayed adjacent to the main gun, and various other honour markings on the tank's flanks. The tank on the far right has reinforced side armour in place of sponson secondary weapons, with the crew painting a stylised red Death Blades kill banner on the armoured panels.
The command tank, with yellow command symbol painted on it's flank, is equipped with sponson heavy bolters and a cupola mounted storm bolter as secondary weapons. While the third tank is equipped with sponson heavy bolters only. Often lascannon secondary weapons are fitted to shadowsword sponsons, but both of these tanks have exchanged the lascannons for improved rangefinding and targeting equipment, to allow them to be more accurate with the volcano cannon main armament.
In most deployments it is rare for shadowswords to be fielded as a single formation, with commanders preferring to distribute individual shadowswords throughout their forces. Formations such as this are normally only deployed against a formidable enemy force, when the situation calls for massed war engine killing armament.

The Revenants Walk
Pict capture of a xenos war engine recently sighted on the Imperial Prison Colony world of Neu Diemenslandt. Until recently there has been no documented xenos activity in the war zone, however the sighting of the war engine indicates that a significant force is likely to be present in system. When or how they arrived remains unknown, as does their force disposition and objectives.
This engine is one of the smaller titan class engines utilised by the Eldar, and is often associated with heavily armed, rapidly moving strike forces that are able to play havoc with slower moving imperial forces. This particular titan is armed with twin pulse lasers, representing a significant threat to superheavy class vehicles and titans. As no contact has been made by the Eldar it is unknown what their objectives are in this war zone, however it is highly probable that they will be a high level threat to both Imperial and traitor forces.

The Pledge for 2017
What I said I'd do, what I did and what I say I will do.
In 2016 I pledged that I would do the following:
And here is how I went...
In 2016 I pledged that I would do the following:
- Paint up the 28mm Death Blades models that I currently own. Purchase what bits I need to do this.
- Paint up the 6mm Death Guard Models that I own. Including the supporting Titan Legion.
- Purchase and paint some heavy vehicles for the 6mm Death Blades.
- Paint up some Dark Future models, including purchasing some models on foot.
- Finish rolling up and modelling my Nurgle Warbands for Realms of Chaos.
- Find a like minded gaming group and play some games.
- Keep going with the Old Lead Undead. Hopefully at a faster rate than 1 model per year.
