not interested in the film, but the interview to Florence Guerin is an awesome extra!
You can feel the life blood slowly draining from the giallo by this point in the genre’s cycle. Vintage Times Square footage is always a bonus—the real NYC locations clash strikingly with Italian streets and what look like leftover sets from a Dark Bros. flick. David Hess as an overly seasoned homicide detective is a definite choice, but it’s Florence Guérin’s erotic routines as the pouty callgirl and her revolving door of misfit clients that make this forgotten giallo worth the money. A lesser Crimes of Passion receives a stunning VS restoration.
Anecdotal rather than screen-specific, the commentary track by Troy Howarth and Eugenio Ercolanoi mostly delves into the careers of its key participants. The flick was barely available in North America prior to the Vinegar Syndrome release, except for grungy bootlegs, making it a perfect addition to the company’s ongoing Forgotten Gialli series of handsome boxsets.
Callbacks to M, Nighthawks, and Crimes of Passion certainly weren’t lost on me during my first watch earlier this evening, but it’s nice to hear confirmation of those influences from fellow cinephiles. I did wonder why the Body Double poster artwork appears as a variant here on LB, and that bit of trivia is answered right off the bat. I disagree with Howarth’s unfavorable view of the music, which I thought had an appropriately late-night cable and nineties nightclub sound.
Rookie question: of the two versions posted, is one noticeably superior to the other?
Which version, if either, would anyone recommend?
Solid thriller, thanks for sharing RL !
Thanks for the upgrade!
Yaar . Dont upgrade 90 minutes to 9.00 GB
its ok yaar for preserving quality size and bitrate high ho gaya
i was trying to keep bitrate near 8000k which is standard for 1080p files and rule followed by many sites.. but bitrate went little extra because of grain on print
Everyone is talking about this lately. Thanks for the chance to see it in full glory.
