Emerging singer-songwriter Chxrry22 has released her rendition of The Weeknd‘s hit single “Sacrifice.”
On Chxrry22’s version, the Toronto, Canada, native exchanges the synth-pop production for a piano-laden backdrop that breathes new life into the song’s raw lyrics.
Chxrry22 first teased her cover on Twitter in early October. After sharing the clip, her fans demanded that she release it.
“I posted a snippet of this cover I made for fun on Twitter a month ago. Y’all threatened my existence to release it ever since, so here we are! @theweeknd you deserve all your flowers,” Chxrry22 wrote on Instagram.

Along with her cover, Chxrry22 has shared a live performance that she filmed at Zig-Zag studios, which can be viewed below.
Chxrry22’s “Sacrifice” cover arrives two months after releasing her debut EP, The Other Side, via The Weeknd’s XO Records/Republic Records.
“My approach to writing this project was, ‘Just be as honest as you can be and talk about everything — the good and the bad. Don’t make yourself the victim,'” Chxrry22 told Rated R&B in an interview. “There’s a lot of people that walk around feeling like the villain all the time. And it’s okay. Not everybody is the victim.”
