About RecipeTool
RecipeTool is a set of free cooking calculators for home cooks. They run in your browser, and what you type into them isn't sent to us.
What is on the site
The Recipe Nutrition Calculator is the main tool. You add your ingredients and it shows calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber and sodium per serving.
The site also has these calculators and references:
- Calorie Calculator and Weekly Meal Planner
- Recipe Scaler, Cooking Unit Converter and Air Fryer Conversion Calculator
- Sourdough Starter Feeding Calculator, Bread Baker's Calculator and Fermentation Calculator
- Instant Pot Timing Guide and Safe Cooking Temperatures Chart
- Food Cost Calculator, Meal Prep Calculator and Weekly Meal Planning Template
- Cooking Substitutions Chart, Egg Substitutes for Baking and Spice Pairing Guide
- Nutrition Label Decoder and Food Waste Calculator
Where the nutrition numbers come from
The Recipe Nutrition Calculator uses values from USDA FoodData Central, stored per 100 grams for each ingredient. It converts each ingredient to grams, multiplies by the value per 100 grams, adds the results and divides by the number of servings.
The results are estimates. Exact figures depend on your brand, cut and cooking method. They are for general information only and are not medical or dietary advice.
Who runs it
Michael Lip builds and runs RecipeTool. He also runs Zovo and IngredientCalculator, a sister site for recipe costing.
How the site is paid for
The calculators are free and need no signup. The site is paid for in two ways.
- Recipe Portion Studio is a paid app for saving recipes and weighing portions. It costs $19 USD once.
- Google AdSense serves ads on the calculator and article pages. There are no ads on the Studio pages or at checkout.
The privacy page explains the analytics and advertising cookies and how to switch them off.
