Kharadron Overlords Final(?) Wave

Hello!

Here we are, finally at the end of this project (for now at least) - the last wave of the Kharadron Overlords I've been doing for a client. It's been a hefty project, and I'm pleased with the results and the speed I've been getting through them, but it was a bit of a mountain of plastic! The first load included a couple of boats, all the basic Arkanauts and a selection of other units. The second was most of the elite 'infantry' and a few characters, and the third wave were a load of boats. This final selection is a mix of balloon dwarves, characters and a couple more boats. Here we go:

First up, here's some of the Dwarf bosses of the army. There's an Aetheric Navigator, another Jakkob Bugmansson (without helmet this time), an Arkanaut Admiral and an Aether-Khemist. The top brass! Or, top gold (painted as the rest, it's Retributor Armour washed with Skeleton Horde contrast.)

Next up is Thundrik's Privateers from Underworlds. A fun little selection to paint up, nice to do alternative versions of some of the basic units as little characters. A couple of them have crystals already sculpted on the bases, which I painted in the same blue glue as the eyes etc. I think they fit in nicely with the glass crystal shards elsewhere on the army.

Speaking of characters - here's Brokk Grungsson, the steam punkiest of the steam punk Dwarves. Another fun model to finish up on.

Here's a bunch of Endrinriggers led by a third Dirigible Suit Endrinmaster. The other two got purple and cream bits on the 'balloon' the inverse of each other, so I opted to keep the third one a bit plain.

The fourth Gunhauler, this one came to me without the flight stand so it's got a bit of a stack of cork and a nail to prop it up instead!

And finally we've got a second Ironclad. This one came to me assembled and was missing the forward 'rope' components so they were replaced with some spare jewellery chain.

And there we go, job done! This is nearly the full selection - aside from a 1000 point army I sent off ahead of the rest including the two Frigates. As I said at the start, it's been a big project, but seeing it all together, I'm really pleased with the results. I hope you've enjoyed seeing these over the past months. Thanks for reading, and stay safe out there!

Even More Kharadron Overlords - Big Boats!

Hello!

Here's the third wave (kind of) of the Kharadron Overlords commission project - this time it's 'oops all boats.' I did a couple in the first wave but this time there's four of them, and they definitely don't all fit in the light box!

First up, a two for one:

Here's a couple of Grundstok Gunhaulers. The first one was built pretty much exactly as per the instructions, but these have got a few little variations - heads swapped, a pistol arm and a few extra gubbins placed on the deck. As before they also have magnets so can run either main gun.

The Arkanaut Frigate - again, pretty much the same as the previous one (aside from the crew member going on the other side of the deck); magnetic weapon, crystals on the base etc.

And finally, the Arkanaut Ironclad! This one was a beast!

As you can see, it's got the full compliment of extra crew, including the guy touching up the paint job!

Once again, magnets were employed on the main weapon - I had to be a bit clever with it to allow all three variations, since the big cannon and the harpoon use the same barrel piece, but it works.

And here's the big old scary face on the front! This boat certainly has a bit more of an intimidation factor than the smaller ones!

Anyway, the final (?) wave will be another mix of 'infantry' and boats, which I should be getting to work on soon (if I don't get distracted by more Dreadnoughts...) Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed, and stay safe out there.

More Kharadron Overlords

Hello!

As the title suggests, here's some more Kharadron Overlords! This is all the 'infantry' from the second wave of minis I was sent, with the boats built and sprayed to be painted next. Then there's a third wave to deal with...

Anyway, first here's a bunch of Thunderers:

With the ones in the first batch this makes three units of all the special weapons, plus an additional five normal rifle Dwarves for flexibility. I ignored the instructions a bit here to give some of the weapons to the 'wrong' bodies for a bit of variety, and the unit champions have the adorable drill birds in different places.

Next, two flavours of floaty balloon Dwarves, firstly, more Skywardens:

And Endrinriggers (which were much more fun to build due to lacking those mines!)

Notice for the Endrinriggers I inverted the colours of their purple and cream rudders. I'm not sure if it makes them stand out at all but it felt like a good choice to distinguish them slightly in the paint job.

Then we've got some floaty Dwarf characters:

Here's a pair of Endrinmasters, with these guys I tried to make them a bit different from each other, so we've got different poses and inverted schemes for the fins and propeller.

And finally, the Brewmaster-General himself:

Cheers! It's Jakkob Bugmansson XI, and a nice frothy pint of Bugman's XXXXXX! Pleased with this one in particular, I think the colour combination works great, especially with those glowing blue eyes in the 'dramatic' filter! I also took the excuse to go a bit wild with the base, which was fun! Purple and yellow flowers really work with the scheme I think.

So that's pretty much it for now. Happy with the results, but there's still plenty more to do! If I'm honest I was hoping to be further along by now but stuff happened (you may have noticed my content has been a bit inconsistent over the past couple of months, if you're weirdly invested in this blog.) Still, we're getting there. Thanks for reading, stay safe!

Kharadron Overlords Wave One

Hello!

I've been working away for a little while on these Kharadron Overlords for my current commission project, and having got a good block of them all painted an based, it's time to show what I've done so far. Let's look at some sky dwarves!

I think I've got though somewhere between a quarter and a third of the force, and it's taken me a little while to work out the details of the scheme, but I'm pretty happy with it for now. The brief was, a bit like the default scheme but more purple and more gold - so they've kind of ended up looking like Thanos! Luckily all that gold is dead easy - Retributor Armour covered in Skeleton Horde is magic! As you can see I've also gone a bit wild with the bases - there's some crystals in there that they are obviously trying to dig up, and a load of funky plants. In my mind the magical crystals are causing strange stuff to grow in the otherwise muddy ground.

So first up we've got some basic battle line Dwarf pirates. Three Arkanaut companies with the special weapons grouped together in units. Though one could easily run any combination of these guys together, I did mark out their right shoulder pad to designate units, one is gold, one is silver and one is brassy.

Next up some more elite infantry - Thunderers, Skyriggers and an Endrinmaster (I think!) to lead them.

Not too much to say other than to note more plants on the bases and that the balloon boys have nice cream and purple rudders to tie them in to the boats. Speaking of which:

Pretty happy with how the Gunhauler came out - the purple and cream went on nicely and the large areas of gold have had a bit of the old sponge applied to provide some slight texture and hide the bits that looked a bit 'too contrast paint'. The glowing blue bubbles also breaking up the gold nicely.

The main gun is also magnetised so here it is with the cannon. Of course, you can't have KO with just one boat can you?

So here's a Frigate, proving a little bit too big for the light box really! Same deal as the Gunhauler, but more so.

And once again the main weapon is magnetised, so here's the cannon:

So I hope you like them - there's plenty more coming up! I'll probably do a bit of a step by step guide for something later down the line, maybe the next boat? Let me know in the comments if you're interested. Anyway, thanks for looking, and stay safe out there!
