In the early 2010s we dabbled with cryptocurrencies and researched the industry extensively. We even considered starting a Bitcoin mining or payments business. But with the unknown future of cryptocurrencies at that time we pursued other entrepreneurial ventures and kept our Bitcoin and Ethereum safe in our wallets.
After the ICO bubble had burst and the influx of capital from established institutions, including the financial industry, made it increasingly challenging for governments to ban cryptocurrencies, we revisited our early investments only to discover that we had lost access to them completely. We were unable to locate our wallets in the first place.
Luckily, we still had our old hard drives, otherwise everything would have been gone. After numerous all-nighters, we were finally able to restore our wallets. We then had to solve a software problem with Ethereum, because the wallet solution had been shut down. This also cost us a lot of time and nerves. As a final challenge, we then had to partially reconstruct our passwords. Fortunately, we found a high-performance software to do this, so we finally got our coins back and were able to transfer them to a new wallet.
Nothing was spared when we restored our wallets … We had to learn a lot the hard way. But we enjoyed every minute of it. ReWallet was born!
