Give me a fanfic trope and I’ll grade it

First of all, this title is amazing I love it! Thank you! Here’s an idea:

Patrick tries to work up the nerve to finally talk to the guy he’s been infatuated with who frequents the same coffee shop as him. So far, due to many series of events that were (mostly) not his fault, each time he tries, he’s only manages to say hi. But Patrick will say more than one word to this gorgeous man if it’s the last thing he does.

AKA coffee shop meet cute (or ugly, depending on the way you look at it)

1. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)

Oh god, I’m not sure I even want to know. Also, for my own sake, I’m only counting it as a WIP if I have a sentence actually written down, or else it would be wayyyy high. So for both Schitt’s Creek and 911 LS, it’s got to be 20? Maybe? I think I have like 4-5 for LS I’ve actually started, and more like 15ish for Schitt’s Creek.

13. Exes or established relationship?

Oh established relationship 100%. I do love some good exes angst, but only if I’m in the right mood. Established relationship is my jam! Both writing and reading it.

• Reason why I watch it: Because it’s amazing and hilarious and soft and adorable!!! And the character growth and development is unmatched!
• Why I started watching it: I actually started watching it because my mom started watching and recommended it to me! She stopped watching in the second season, but I pushed through and I got so hooked on it and now here I am today.

01. do you know how you want the story to end when you start, or are you just stumbling through the figurative wilderness hoping to find a road?

hmm i feel like it depends on the story? sometimes, my original idea is actually for the ending. i feel like most often, i have a general sense of where i want it to go, but things do change!

02. talk about a notable time a narrative or character has looked you dead in the eyes and said “fuck your plan, here’s what we’re actually doing.”

okay so this might not be exactly the answer you were looking for but i am notorious for claiming a prompt during a fest and working on it and then seeing another prompt like 1 week before the deadline and suddenly all of the Inspiration is coming to me for this new prompt and my other narrative is left in the dust.

04. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?

omg this question is calling me out. i’m proud to say that some plot bunnies i carried around for a long time did get published, but one that’s been nagging me for probably a year is an angsty fic where stevie moves away. i swear i will right this fic. i have a few others that i’ve been carrying around that i really want to complete, but that one is by far the idea i’ve wanted to do for the longest time.

as to why i haven’t written it? lack of motivation/time and fear. i feel like with a story you’ve been wanting to write for so long, you build it up in your head and then actually trying to write it and live up to that expectation is so difficult. but i’m hoping i’ll be able to write that story and others sometime.

Also sidenote but i feel like i have so many leftover plot bunnies from all of my previous fandoms, too, and i think about them all the time

13. talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.

I’d say writing MURDER in Schitt’s Creek. i had a vague idea based on a prompt, but i had absolutely no clue how or if i could pull it off. i knew that it would either turn out great or terrible. fortunately, it turned out great (i think), and it was just a really fun experience and something i never expected to write!

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year

oh wow this was really difficult! i guess i have to choose the scene in Undertow where patrick teaches david to swim. i feel like everything in my fic was building to that, so when i got to it, i was really excited to write it. i’m happy with how it turned out!

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

here’s wishing you the bluest sky. i wrote this for my friend’s bday. i didn’t think i’d be able to finish one in time, but this came to me all of the sudden, and i really enjoyed writing it! it’s the first time i’ve ever written rachel, too, so it was something new for me!
