PRESTON — Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston is the most recent Caroline County church to put up a “blessing box,” a 24-hour mini food pantry, stocked with non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for anyone who needs them.

As a stopgap and communal gesture, the mini food donation boxes are great. But they also point out a much larger issue: Food insecurity is on the rise--and can't be solved by charitable donations alone.

It's called the "Blessing Box" and it's proof there is still good in the world.
