Iromuji kimono

Iromuji (色無地): single-colored kimono that may be worn by married and unmarried women. They are mainly worn to tea ceremonies. The dyed silk may be figured (rinzu, similar to jacquard), but has no differently colored patterns. It comes from the word "muji" which means plain or solid and "iro" which means color.

Iromuji (色無地 ) are a type of kimono without any colored patterns. They are of one solid color, which can not be black or white, as these have their own names and unique uses. They may sport woven patterns in the color of the kimono, but never of any other colors. Those woven jacquard patterns are called rinzu. Iromuji can be worn by married and unmarried woman alike. They are a popular choice for tea ceremony, because they not draw attention away from the ceremony itself.

Finally a furisode uodate! Most of these I got at the last sale at the Watanabes’ shop (some will remember). All very high grade, silk items. My personal favs are 1st, 2nd and the red iromuji (one colour no pattern) one! I actually wore it for Christmas last year 🙌 I currently have 52 pieces and not planning on expanding this collection in the nearest future. Any favorites among these?
