A curved blade forged for the purpose of tearing away at enemy armaments. Though originally meant to instill good fortune in battle for its wielder, that fact has long been forgotten. Channeled with the rancor of bloodthirsty deities, the khopesh no longer stops at the surface—it now goes straight for its foe's very life.

This is the result of day one of my five day challenge to myself. I've challenged myself to create one 3d weapon a day for a week, allotting myself five hours to go from research to fully textured asset. This is a Egyptian Khopesh, a bronze age sword. Fascinating! I’m thankful for my younger son 📚who wants to know something about everything! While I was writing he texted me a seemingly random fact. Him: Apparently the early Israelites even till the Davidian period used the kopesh. Me: looks up the khopesh. It is shaped like a sickle. Could the “sword of Gideon” been in the symbolic shape of a sickle?? Woah. Just saying. PERHAPS this is why God allowed this seeming small ode to Gideon be recorded. Maybe the sword mattered. Just a thought…

A small project focussed on creating a stylised but still functional version of the ancient weapon known as a 'Khopesh'. The blade is made out of obsidian with a pattern highlighted with lava. The handle is a bone material braced with bronze to give the handle durability.
