How can the pigment used in an imprimatura or 'toned ground' affect your painting. Learn how to use a toned ground to complement your work.

You can use this technique to tone many different types of surfaces. For example paper, wooden panel or canvas. An imprimatura is a stain of colour applied to a primed canvas or panel.
