National Flag Days are observed from May 28 to June 12 to commemorate the first unfurling of the Philippine flag after the defeat of the Spanish forces in the battle of Alapan, Imus, Cavite by the Philippine Revolutionary Army. It was only formally presented to the public on June 12, 1898. Since president Fidel V. Ramos issued Executive Order No. 179, every Filipino is encouraged to display the Philippine flag in their homes, offices, establishments, schools, etc. throughout this period.
