Marie Therese Flanagan is professor emerita of medieval history at Queen’s University, Belfast. She has written extensively on pre- and post-invasion twelfth-century Ireland. She is a member of the Royal Irish Academy and served as its International Relations Secretary, and on Executive Committee and Council, 2008-2012. She previously served as Vice-President for Ulster of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, 1999-2001.
