When joining two pieces of clay, you’ll have the best chance of them staying joined if you score (rough up the surfaces to be joined) and then slip (paint both scored surfaces with a pre-made clay slip).

Slip trailing is a pottery technique where watered down clay is squirted onto more firm clay in lines or shapes. Slip trailing can add texture and contrast.
