I try not to become too attached to many material items, but one thing that I have always had a soft spot for is mugs. As an avid coffee drinker, using my favorite mug is a vital part of my morning routine. It’s beautiful, the perfect size and shape and adds a bit of warmth, comfort and joy to my day. They often come in a set of 4 and are made from porcelain. But these are no ordinary dinnerware these are more unusual dinner plates and serving dishes.

I'm a Berlin-based artist creating 'Very Ugly Plates'. Almost every single item is inspired by a real-life story. Some are drawn from the frivolous antics of my best friend, who also happens to act as the editor-in-chief for a selection of my favorite plate captions. Others are often prompted by overheard gossip, urban observations, or simply my state of mind at the time. As it turns out, my most inspiring emotional state is that of disappointment.

Plates. A simple round surface on which we put food. An item so mundane, you'd probably think that someone's crazy if they said that they're entertained by them. Well, there are such people, and they're not as crazy as one might imagine because there is such a thing as entertaining plates, however rare the phenomenon may be.
