Edmond[1] (or Edmund[2]) Halley, FRS (pronoonced /ˈɛdmənd ˈhæli/;[3][4] 8 November 1656 – 25 Januar 1742) wis an Inglis astronomer, geopheesicist, mathematician, meteorologist, an pheesicist wha is best kent for computin the orbit o the eponymous Halley's Comet. He wis the seicont Astronomer Royal in Breetain, succeedin John Flamsteed.

Might we suggest... simply recogniz[ing] both forms, noting that—in the days when Halley lived—there was no rigid 'correct' spelling, and that this particular astronomer seemed to prefer the 'u' over the 'o' in his published works.
