In March 1888, it wis asked that the Chamber o Deputies raised the settlement hierarchy o the veelage o Minas tae be a toun an tae chynge the depairtment's name tae Lavalleja. The first wis appruivit. Frae then, an till December 26, 1927, when the name wis chyngit tae Lavalleja, widespread debates aboot the matter wur held. There wis poleetical will tae designate a depairtment unner the name o the heid o the Liberation Crusade, but no at the expense o Minas, even considerin creatin a new depairtment named Lavalleja, being rejectit efterwards.
