The NJIT Secure Computing Initiative (SCI) seeks to award scholarships as part of the CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS) program. Our overarching goal is to increase the nation's workforce skilled in cybersecurity by recruiting, training, and placing qualified students. Colleges and universities participating in the SFS program are selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through a competitive process. NJIT participates in the SFS program through its designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the NSA/DHS.

    Each scholarship includes:
  • Full tuition
  • Stipend for each academic year ($25,000 for undergraduate students and $34,000 for graduate students)
  • Professional allowance of up to $6,000 per year for SFS Job Fair and other travel, conferences, research materials and supplies, a laptop, books, professional training and certifications, etc.
    The scholarships can be awarded as one of the following categories:
  1. Students combining Bachelor and Master Degrees: one academic year (the senior year) for the undergraduate program and two academic years for their Master program.
  2. Master students: two academic years.
  3. PhD students: three academic years.

The recipients of the scholarships in the first two categories must receive an MS degree in one of the following programs: MS in Cybersecurity and Privacy or MS in IT Administration and Security. The recipients of the scholarships in the third category must receive a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. A single student cannot receive more than one SFS scholarship.

    Scholarship recipients have the following obligations:
  • Complete the degree program successfully and on time.
  • Fulfill a post-graduation service obligation to the US Government: For each year of scholarship received, work one year in a cybersecurity-related position for the federal agency. *
  • Complete a summer internship with a participating federal agency for every year in the program.
  • Participate in the SFS job fair that is held every year.
* Positions in state, local, tribal or territorial governments may be allowed.
