My house is very energy efficient partly because I only have 7 1/2 foot ceilings. This made it a challenge to add crown molding which left narrow spaces between molding & door frame. Solution was to add a section of flat wood adorned with a thin strip of egg & dart molding. It creates a nice architectural element above the doors and makes the ceilings look higher.
