As a therapist, I hear this question asked a lot, so I thought I would share with you a skill that I have used with hundreds of clients over the years, and it consistently is one that people keep in their frequently used section in their brain libraries to help during the times when emotions are so overwhelming they are causing a lot of distress.

Self Sabotage

tosavesanity Self sabotage can show up in many forms. When it starts interfering with your daily life and long terms goals it may be time to look at alternative behaviours. Firstly, being able to identify when you’re self sabotaging is a huge step in addressing it. Then it’s time to flip the script and think “what is the opposite of this harmful behaviour?”. This fits in nicely with a concept called ‘opposite action’ which is a pillar of DBT therapies. More on that in another post. 🙂…
