Théodore Chassériau, (1819-1856), French painter who attained some measure of success in his attempt to fuse the Neoclassicism of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and the Romanticism of Eugène Delacroix. As a boy, Chassériau entered the studio of Ingres, following his master to Rome in 1834. Chassériau’s immediate success at the Paris Salon of 1836 was confirmed three years later by a "Venus" and his “Suzanne”, both in the Louvre.

Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio) Study for the Phrygian Sibyl, 1511-1512. This drawing is a study for the Chigi chapel in Santa Maria della Pace in Rome. Over the chapel arch, Raphael painted in fresco the four Sibyls. I like this becausethe seated figure with classical drapery was probably painted from a male model, but the face is idealized, full of grace and beauty.
