 The pattern is for a baby quilt and includes a quilting template!!!  It can be easily altered to make a lap quilt or any size quilt!!!

The pattern  is a really easy sew with a simple applique process that any beginner/intermediate sewist can do!!!  The fun part is, you can add lots of embellishments to make this quilt really come to life and let your personality shine through!!!

We are so excited to share our Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday- Llama Love You Quilt!  Check out all the special details below and can't wait to see other's creations!

Our name is SewWithSparkles because we like sparkles and glitter, but another thing we really like is embellishments to add some "drama" to our quilts/wall hangings.  The possibilities are "limitless"!!!  It's amazing how just a few embellishments can really bring a quilt or wall hanging to life!!! 

On our "Llama Love You" quilt PATTERN we added eyes, eye lashes, necklaces, bows, flowers, ribbons/rick-rack, buttons, etc and used faux fur fabric for the bodies!!!

All of these items can be bought at a fabric or craft store or on-line.  You will want to add these embellishments to your top right before it's quilted!!!  The ribbon and rick-rack can be sewed on by machine and the rest of the embellishments can be sewn on my hand.  The faux fur is an applique process which uses Pellon 805 Wonder Under to fuse it to the background fabric.  The "Llama Love You" quilt is really easy to make and such fun and personal!!!

On our "Limitless" quilt we added metallic sparkle thread, glow in the dark thread, embroidered words and fun binding!!!

On our FredBird wall hanging we added sew on google eyes, baseball buttons, shoe laces and iron-on decals.

Taking the Fear out of Quilting As You Go (QAYG)

Well if you've seen or been around our blog you know I'm the risk taker.  The jump in.  The let's think later one.  Heck i'm still under a year of sewing for the FIRST. TIME. EVER! That is not a joke - started July 2018.

Why not Quilt As You Go (QAYG) as well? It's not like we don't have enough going on in the quilt already? hehe  We decided to go this route because I wanted lots of detail (read sparkle thread, metallic thread, glow thread)

You can Quilt a Queen Size Top with Your Domestic Machine with a Few MUST HAVEs and a Low Budget.

People ask all the time whether you can quilt a king/queen size quilt on your domestic machine.  The answer is yes, but there are definitely some must haves that make it a lot easier!!!

I haven't quilted a king on my domestic machine, but I have quilted this queen using stitch-in-the-ditch and ruler work!!!

Best Looking and Easiest Quilts Ever That Don't Break The Bank

Every year I donate 2 quilt tops to our church for our annual picnic.  The quilting ladies want the quilts to be at least 90" x 108" and they hand quilt the quilts!!!  My mama always told me that whatever you donate to the church comes back to you two fold so I should never go broke!!!

The church sells tickets - they call it a fortune wheel - and they spin the wheel and the winning number wins the quilt.  I always take pride in my quilt tops selling tickets out fast!!!

I just love the feel of minky fabric against my skin.  I don't think it's just for baby quilts!!!  I made this large lap quilt for a future daughter-in-law using minky fabric on the front for the llamas and on the entire back!!!

5 Things I Do Before I Begin A Quilt

Let's walk through the first time this happened (circa July 2018 - hehe!) and remember I flew, FLEW through making this pattern that changed my life!

I'm generally the time of person that learns as I go and it works for me.  I consume and seek out knowledge as I need it but for those planning a quilt or even veterans here are some tips to make your next quilt process smoother or (dare I say...more inspired!) 
1.  Begin with the end in mind!   Maybe you have a favorite Pin you saved, picture you saw, or mental image of your next work of quilting art, capture it in a way that you can piece it together.  Meaning print it out, make it large scale if necessary so you can think through how you want to put it together.  Having a pattern here may be helpful!
2.  Is this skill new? If yes, GOOD FOR YOU!  Thinking outside your box, I've found only expands your potential and pushes you creatively!  You might want to take a class, watch a video, or do some research. I've embedded my favorite paper piecing video EVER that takes the guess work out of it!  

3.  Prep the Scene!
Make a plan and get prep cutting finished.  I love to listen to music or podcasts while cutting to make it go by faster.  With improv quilts - I totally skip this and just work as I go.  Each method has similar results and I listen to the time I have or what I am making.

Note: this is Karen's sewing room!  Amber's is a basement concrete area half covered in dust (no joke!) I love envisioning myself here and only actually sew there when I visit. We can't all have dedicated, organized sewing areas!

4. Double Check Supplies
Do you have enough thread? Do you have bobbins wound? Is your work space organized? What can you prepare to have the smoothest possible start to finish? Thinking ahead ALWAYS pays off when sewing!

5. Time Bound
What is your goal of completion?  Will you need to break down the steps and set deadlines for yourself to complete?  My quilts tend to not need completion by a certain time but I do keep myself working and momentum up in order to keep the ball rolling and moving forward.
