Free video and voice calls
Skype lets you make video calls using the WiFi network or your phone’s 3G connection, but you can also send messages or share photos or videos with your contacts.
Mobile Skype
With Skype’s mobile app, you can access your Skype account to call phone numbers or other Skype accounts, in addition to chat and messaging. The highlight, of course, is the video calls, for which you can choose the quality of the video to help improve its performance.
It is also possible to add and remove multiple people to voice or video call, with up to four people able to join a single chat.
If you have a Skype account, it automatically syncs with the app so that you can use your Skype credit and add, if you like, your Skype contacts.
Skype includes other functions, such as editing your status, setting up notifications, and managing your contacts. The app also allows you to view a contact’s profile, in addition to leaving voice messages and adding participants to ongoing conversations.
Improved design
The app has improved its design with each update. Among the highlights: a design suitable for tablets, and an interface that’s very clear and more intuitive than in earlier versions.
With its ease of use, you can browse your contact list, focus on the favorites column, or take a look at recent calls.
One of the best
Skype has the advantage of being multi-platform and is a classic app in its field. Its mobile app is one of the best to save money on calls and take advantage of your iPhone's camera for video calls.
There have been lots of interface improvements in Skype. Native resolution is now supported for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+. Contact profiles display the number of contacts as well as time zones. Individual conversations can be marked as read or unread. "Do not disturb" mode disables notification sounds.
The "recent" list now displays presence indicators.

Extremely Unreliable over 3G .. You're always offline.
MoreDoes Skype for the iPhone have a great UI? Sure. Does it work at times? Sure. Does it work reliably when mobile? Absolutely not - voice transmissions break up, software doesn't use available bandwidth properly so calls sound great in a solid WI-FI field when still, but any other condition results in pauses / silent stretches.
More importantly, if you try to use this software for any length of time, you realize the app spontaneously shuts down on its own. Friends of mine that also use the app are constantly going offline even though their phones are always on, charged and on 3G / WI-FI. Put simply, the app doesn't do a good job of staying online. Now, there is a solution to this I've found: To jailbreak your phone and use an app called "Backgrounder", however I don't want to jailbreak - Hence the horrible review / performance of this app ( pretty simple )
With that said, Skype for Windows is good .. Too bad this is Skype for iPhone .. A quite unusable / very annoying product
Pros:
Looks great
Chat w/ emoticons
Works when standing still in a strong WI-FI signal
In theory works over 3G
Cons:
Extremely annoying to use in the real world
Poor use of available bandwidth
Crashes in background
Doesn't keep you online

Can't delete chat history.
MoreGood and all, but chat history is never really deleted....log on again and it's back. Are you going to fix this?

Best Free Alternative To Calling Someone.
MoreYou can save a lot of time and phone minutes if you use Skype instead of the phone. For those who have an iPod Touch you will need earphones with a mic built into them as well as wifi around you. Using this to talk to people will save you a lot of money in the long run even though with Skype you will always have to deal with drop conversations and the moments where you and the other person can't hear each other.
The dropped convos and not being able to hear the other user are the main problems for Skype users. The only other issue is for it to be completely free, it has to be Skype to Skype calling meaning the other person must be using Skype too. If you wish to call landlines or cellphone, you will have to pay a fee which is still usually cheaper than your current service provider's plan.
I would recommend any form of Skype if you prefer talking over typing. The mobile version is a plus because you can use it more like a phone rather than talk on a mic using your computer.
Pros:
Mobile Voice Communication
Can Save On Phone Bill
Free For Skype To Skype Calls
Cons:
Dropped Conversations From Time To Time
There Are Times You Can't Hear The Other Person
Calling Landlines and Mobile Phones Costs Money
