Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Orders

Software Upgrade

We moved the Studio Shop to a new software platform on March 15, 2024. If you previously had an account, you'll need to register a new one (and you can reuse your old email address). If you purchased short fiction e-books in the past and need to transfer those purchases into your new account, please use the "Contact" link and let us know. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Payments

The preferred method of payment is via PayPal which will allow you to pay with a debit/credit card. Orders paid with personal checks (USD only) are not shipped until the checks clear the bank. Bank Checks (also known as cashier's checks) are processed upon receipt. We also accept Federal Funds Wire transfer.

Please make checks payable to Donald Maitz (not "Maitz and Wurts Studio Shop") and include an email address so we can keep you updated.

Shipping & Handling

We ship multiple prints in a single package, so shipping costs are based upon the size of the largest print you purchase:

An additional fee is added for international shipping (regardless of print sizes or quantities):

A $5 handling fee is added to each print order. We use recycled materials wherever possible. The shipping tubes originate from blueprint paper core tubes secured from a local source and are more robust than many commercial kinds. We hand cut tubes to fit each order, with custom-fit end caps made from recycled sources instead of commercial plastic inserts. Other than plastic tape (to prevent the mailing address ink from smearing), the tube materials are biodegradable.

Prints are packed to withstand handling by the shipper. If your print arrives damaged, return the damaged item for replacement at no further cost. Insurance is available upon request for an added fee. Insurance for overseas destinations for certain items may need to be estimated beforehand. Contact us to inquire.

Custom Orders and Deluxe Prints

We can create custom sizes on our standard 24" printer. The 24" is the limitation of the short side of an image, so a very long, narrow image can be printed with the narrow side at 24". Deluxe prints may be created on canvas and such orders are priced separately as special orders. Inquire for prices based upon the print and shipping destination. Prints on canvas are created by request and are shipped rolled in a tube, not on stretchers.

If you see an image on our web sites that is not offered as a print in the Studio Shop, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request. There is an additional $50 charge to produce a print not currently in our Studio Shop catalog.

About Prints and Original Art

Lithographs

These reproductions are manufactured on a printing press, usually a four color process where each color is added one at a time. Under magnification a moire pattern of dots can be seen.

Giclées

Ink is sprayed or "jetted" onto paper from nozzles that apply the color in a continuous tone. As many as eight or more ink cartridges are in use to replicate color subtleties. Most that we offer are produced on site on a Canon Pro 2600 large format printer with Color Byte software. Canon uses archival inks tested to be color accurate for 80 years. We use Lexjet acid-free fine art paper stocks or Epson Exhibition Canvas (for reproductions). This ensures quality results and allows for a range of customized options.

Watercolor Giclées

The giclées of watercolors are printed on textured fine art paper which emulates watercolor paper and are at approximately the size of the original art.

Print Formatting

The size listed for prints refers to the overall outer dimension, not image size. Each giclée and limited edition print has a white border, wider at the bottom side. The white border increases with the dimensions of the image from approximately 3/4" side and top at the small size to 2.5" at the extra large size. This leaves room for information about the artwork as well as personalizations. Images are titled at the bottom center and the artist's name is printed below. Signatures are in pencil at lower right or left corner.

Example Print

Giclée fine art prints are on acid free paper with cotton fibers. Some have a spray varnish coating, however, sweat and oil from excessive handling may discolor the surface. When framing, UV protective glass is recommended and acid free materials. Hang away from direct sunlight to protect the longevity of your purchase.

Personalization and Remarques

We can add a name or personalization to a print in pencil at the bottom. This option is not available for the flat small prints.

In the bottom space of the larger prints 24" x ( X"), there is room for small original pencil art (a quick sketch or a more detailed drawing). Contact us for pricing.

Original Art

Original artwork available for purchase ranges from preliminary sketches and drawings to oil paintings. Inquiries concerning availability and price are encouraged since not every artwork by the artist is represented here. Questions about a particular work and its technique are welcome, with serious interest. An enlarged section with detail can be emailed at a higher resolution to provide a close up sample.

Commissions

We are willing to consider original painting commissions. Contact us with your request.
