June Goal and Beyond

I am excited that it is only the middle of June and that I have completed my goal for June.  This quilt top is made with the Chantilly fabric line by Lauren and Jessi Jung.  I really like the cheerful bold colors.  I wanted to get it pieced so that I could give it to my favorite quilter, Leslie.  I do have to get the back ready before I see Leslie in July.  I took this picture at the last Sit and Sew I attended. I went there determined to complete this top and share my "ta da" before moving on to any other projects.

I will link this up with ALYOF 2015 later this month.

The picture below is of a box of fabric I won in a giveaway.  The box arrived all the way from Switzerland from Vreni who blogs at Oops-Lah.  Vreni just moved from Singapore to Switzerland.

I have already started thinking about how to use these fabrics.

I have a link on my sidebar to That Quirky Scrap Quilt Along.  I was not planning to join any new stitch alongs or start new projects until completing some of the many projects I have started.  This project helps take care of scraps and my basket was overflowing, and still is by the way.  These are the blocks I have completed so far for this project.   It is going to be really scrappy.

While sorting through scraps and straightening up my sewing room I made a stack of some of the projects pieced together and waiting to be completed.  This is the pile I made in just a few minutes.  I can see 13 projects and that does not count those in process.  It is time to get these things completed don't you think.  Do any of you who quilt or sew have so many unfinished projects waiting for you?

Scrappy Plate Club

I have always wanted to make a Dresden Plate Quilt.  That is probably because my grandmother made several in her lifetime and I always loved them.  I have gathered a few scraps of fabrics over the years to use in my quilt but have not yet tried it.  When I saw than Anne at Bunny Hill Designs was sponsoring a Scrappy Plate Club I knew that this was the time for my Dresden Plate Quilt.

I gathered my fabrics and a Dresden Template and I am ready to begin cutting and stitching.  I chose to use some 1930's prints I had been given as a gift and I purchased a few small pieces. I will also use the scraps I have collected for years.

I will be posting about my progress, soon I hope.

Take a look at the Dresden Plate Flickr group and see what others are doing.

Lilacs and My Mystery Quilt

I was ab;e to catch a few pictures of the Lilac bush in our front yard.  It seems that because of the weather I have missed some of the plants blooming in the yard.  Just before the hail began I was able to snap a few pictures and cut a few flowers.

We have not had spots like this on the leaves before, I hope it is just this years weather causing the problem.

Lilacs in my Flora Doora

This was my Flora Doora with Tulips

I put lilacs in several places around the house.

I was pointing out both the lilacs and tulips because my Mystery Quilt has both in it.  I had a great time with this and learned a few new things.  I have always known that cutting things out accurately is an important step in sewing.  I made a couple of mistakes that reminded me how important that is but plugged on and made it work.   I cut one of the pinwheel blocks too small so decided to use it in place of another block and had to make another pinwheel.   I really like the way my quilt turned out.  Thank you Tonya at Hillbillly Handiworks for the sew along and all of your hard work.

I plan to do a little quilting practice on my machine when I finish this project.  I will share the totally finished project when it it totally finished.  I think I see the sun peeking out, I should take advantage and work a little in my backyard garden.
 Have a great day!

Blocks made from the squares set aside at the beginning of the project.  These were new to me but fun to make.

A little closer look

Mystery Quilt Progress

I was able to get caught up with my May For Me - Mystery Quilt Stitch along.  It is not too late to join in, visit Tonya at Hillbilly Handiworks and see whats up.  First I had to separate several squares from my charm pack.
Then I made these cute little blocks with several of the blocks left in the charm pack.  I wasn't too sure about the red squares but used them anyway and I think they will work fine.  I completed the second embroidery also but I may have to redo part of her because the color on her arms and face doesn't show up too well.
Tonya should be posting the next step some time today so it is good that I am caught up, that is unless I decide to redo part of the embroidery.
I hope you are having a great May.

May For Me Mystery Quilt

Tonya at Hillbilly Handiworks is sharing a Mystery Quilt this month.  She told us what fabrics to purchase or gather from our stash and then last week gave us the design for the first block to embroider.  She has since shared the steps for piecing some blocks but I have not had the chance to get to that yet.

I bought fabric that I love, this project I plan to keep.

The first block has not been cut to size, I tried something new and used some color, using crayons before doing the stitching.

Come back later this week and I will show you my pieced blocks.
Or visit Tonya and see how her quilt is coming along.  It is not too late to join in.
Don't forget my Cottage Charm Giveaway, link on my sidebar.
