Anthony Minghella

Anthony Minghella (6 January 1954 – 18 March 2008) was a British movie director, producer and screenwriter[1] of Italian ancestry. He was born in Ryde, Isle of Wight.[1] His brother is screenwriter Dominic Minghella (born 1967).

Minghella wrote and directed Truly, Madly, Deeply; he won a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay. He wrote and directed The English Patient; he won a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and an Academy Award for Best Director. He wrote and directed The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain.

Minghella had cancer of the tonsils and the neck. He died of a cerebral haemorrhage and from cancer complications in Charing Cross Hospital, west London, the week after an operation to remove the cancer. He had a son, actor Max (born 1985) and a daughter, Hannah.
