Synopsis[edit]
- "Homer and Marge attend Artie Ziff's wedding and become quite uncomfortable when they realize that his bride-to-be is a clone of Marge. Meanwhile, Lisa grapples with the misogynistic implications of the immediate popularity she receives after getting her new Invisalign braces."
Plot[edit]
Lisa walks down the sidewalk reading Li'l Eco-Warrior Magazine when a man tells her she would be prettier if she smiled.
At dinner, Lisa tells the family about the encounter, and Bart shows her an app called Puber that predicts what she'll look like during puberty, displaying an image of her with braces. Marge explains that the orthodontist they originally visited (in "Last Exit to Springfield") was a rogue periodontist, and Lisa needs braces again due to her saxophone playing. Afterwards, Marge brings a gift to the table—a hologram of Artie Ziff inviting them to his wedding.
At Kidzrule Orthodontics!, Lisa gets braces on her upper teeth and can't stop smiling broadly because of them.
At Artie's bachelor party, Homer and Marge listen to how Artie met the new woman in his life. Kent Brockman fails to impress the wedding planner (despite being married). Homer falls into a food coma after eating a pig.
At school, everyone compliments Lisa, their opinion of her changed by her new smile.
At the wedding, no one sits on the bride's side. Homer is asked to walk the bride down the aisle and agrees after negotiating for an extra piece of cake. After Artie and his bride exchange vows, the Rabbi pronounces them husband and wife, and Artie removes the veil to reveal that his bride looks exactly like Marge.
Lisa realizes she has new power—the ability to influence others to do good—and begins using it at school to promote recycling and stop the bullies. She runs for student body president. One week before the election, she returns to Kidzrule Orthodontics! to get braces on her lower teeth, which causes her smile to become a permanent frown. The doctor says it will remain that way for six months. Meanwhile, Wiggum, Eddie, and Lou search for Ralph's retainer on Garbage Island after discovering a new one would cost $500.
Later at the hotel, while Homer raids the mini-fridge, he and Marge learn from Artie that his wife is actually a robot and that he built multiple robots in her image. Marge convinces him to use them for good, so they create the Orfanato de Artie Ziff, an orphanage. When Artie tells a reporter that he still plans to marry one of them in the future, the robots all fly away.
At the Student Council debate, Mary Bailey moderates, introducing Dubya Spuckler in person and Lisa via a Skype call, claiming she is "sick." Her plan to hide her frown fails when Martin can't properly use the software to modify her image. The audience sees Lisa's frown and loses confidence in her, resulting in a win for Dubya. Marge consoles her, but it is revealed that this was one of Artie's robots.
Later, Artie has dinner with five other robots, who all choose to power down rather than continue spending time with him.
During the closing credits, several moments of Lisa growing up with a frown are shown, ending with an image of her smiling peacefully while meditating under a tree.
