Synopsis[edit]
- "After seeing a girl from the window of the bus, Lisa introduces herself to her and they become friends. Experiencing life with a more cultured family, Lisa continues to lie about the her own family to spend more time with her new friend's family."
Plot[edit]
Kent Brockman presents This Day in Springfield History, showing the origins of the School Bus. It then cuts to the present day, where the bus is ruined and the children are causing chaos. Bart wants to compete for the Lunch-Boxeo middleweight title, but Lisa tells him they will never unify the titles. Bart's match with Nelson begins as Lisa starts singing and locks eyes with a girl on the sidewalk who is playing the clarinet.
At dinner, the family gathers on the couch to watch U.S. Ninja Ultimate Beast Blaster, while Lisa tries to tell them about the girl she saw. The next day, after more chaos on the bus, Lisa asks Otto to stop at The Promenade on the Grove at Springfield Heights, where the girl, Sam Monroe, lives. At Sam's house, Lisa hears her crying.
Lisa enters and admires the beautiful home. She goes upstairs, talks to Sam, and they play music together. Lisa has dinner with Sam's family and watches them play music like their daughter. Returning home, Lisa feels depressed by the contrast, as her own family ignores her and her questions.
At Sam's house, they ask Lisa about her family. After Sam's father announces they are moving soon, Lisa lies about her family. When they drive her home and the lie risks exposure, she uses Ned Flanders as a stand-in father to avoid being caught. However, due to a change at Ned's work, Lisa learns the next day that Sam's family is not moving and now wants to meet Marge. Lisa then lies again, saying her parents are moving out, and Sam's family invites her to stay with them.
Lisa carries out her plan by sneaking out each night and returning home each morning. One night, Marge finds her out, having been informed by Ned, and Lisa confesses everything. Marge insists that Lisa invite Sam's family over, to show her she has nothing to be ashamed of. The dinner initially goes well, with the Simpson family trying to act proper. When the pressure becomes too much, Lisa admits the truth. The dinner continues on a positive note, and both families reconcile and hug. Bart shows everyone how he renovated his room into an entertainment space and offers them beer.
After dinner, Bart invites many Springfielders to a party in his room, where Homer is notably not invited.
