Professional identity you actually own
Sifa ID is a professional identity network built on the Atmosphere, the same open network behind Bluesky. Your career history, skills, and endorsements live in your own data server, not in ours. Switch providers, leave Sifa, or build your own client. Your data stays yours.
The problem
One platform decides how your career looks, who gets to see it, and who you can reach. If your work doesn't fit its shape, you're stuck. If its algorithm doesn't favour you, you're invisible. In many industries it's dominant enough that none of this is really optional. And whole professions never fit that mould at all, so they get left out entirely.
The visibility it hands out has little to do with your actual work. It rewards posting, reactions, and reach. Being good at going viral there isn't the same as being good at your job.
Your work is also bigger than any CV: code, writing, talks, music, video, the projects you shipped and the people you shipped them with. Most of it never fits the boxes on a profile page.
And none of it is really yours. The recommendations people wrote you, your project history, who you worked with, the only way to show someone is to send them back to the same platform. You can't take it anywhere.
Your professional network is locked in the same way. It's the default place your field connects and messages, so those relationships live on their servers, not yours. If the platform changed its mind or shut down tomorrow, you'd lose the line to people you've known for years.
On top of that, almost everything on a profile is self-claimed. Anyone can say they work at Nike, and AI-generated everything makes that claim worth less every year. What's missing is a way to prove it: colleagues who confirm it, a work email that checks out, the company's own account vouching for you.
We think that's backwards. A profile should be backed by real work and the people who'd vouch for it, not just your own word. And the record of it should belong to you.
Where Sifa ID is going
We're building toward a professional reputation you earn and own. Earned from real work, vouched for by the people who'd know, and portable across every app on the open web, so no single company can gate it or switch it off.
Professional life is where we start, because that's where the stakes are highest and the lock-in hurts most. It's also for the people the old platform never fit: a profile you own works for any kind of professional, not just the ones who match the standard mould. And a reputation you earn and own is a foundation the whole open web can build on.

What's true today
Sifa keeps your professional profile current on its own. It gathers your real activity from across open standards and the Atmosphere, code, writing, talks, and more, so your profile stays up to date without the manual upkeep, and it already reaches well beyond what fits on a CV.
The earned-reputation layer, where credibility comes from what others verify about you, is what we're building next. We'll say it's here when it's here. When it lands, proving where you work will look like this: colleagues confirm it, your work email checks out, and the employer's own account vouches for your role.
What we won't build
No reputation scores, trust tiers, or leaderboards. We show your work, we don't rank you against anyone. No borrowed endorsements dressed up as verified. No lock-in, no growth tricks, no surveillance, nothing sold to advertisers, and no puzzles or games to farm your attention. And we're not cloning the old professional network feature for feature inside our own walls.
How it works
Sifa reads and writes professional profile data to your data server. We provide the interface: the import tools, the profile pages, the endorsement system. The data is yours, stored where you choose, portable to any compatible app.
Hosted in Europe
Sifa's servers run on Hetzner infrastructure in Germany. Application, database, analytics: all EU-hosted and governed by EU law. Pair that with a European data server like Eurosky and all your data stays in Europe. Read our privacy policy.
Hosting is a good start, but the real point is ownership. Your profile lives in your own data server, not on ours. If Sifa shut down tomorrow, your profile would still be there, ready to move to another app. That's the core of how your data should work, not a nice-to-have.
The name
Sifa is Swahili for "praise, reputation, and qualification." It's part of Singi Labs (from msingi, "foundation"), alongside Barazo (from baraza, "community council"). The three names match what we're building: community-owned professional infrastructure, from the ground up.
The founder
Sifa is built by Guido X Jansen, a community and conversion specialist based in The Netherlands. Guido has spent two decades connecting technology and community, from the Joomla! community in 2005 to the Magento ecosystem and developer relations at companies like Euroflorist and Spryker. Sifa grew out of a simple frustration: why does a platform own your professional reputation when the technology exists to own it yourself?
Open standards
Sifa's professional profile lexicons are open source under the MIT license. The id.sifa.* namespace is a shared standard any developer can build on.
Fewer moving parts
We keep outside dependencies to a minimum. Fonts and icons ship with the page instead of loading from someone else's servers, and a search runs on our own infrastructure rather than calling out to a third party. This takes more work to build and maintain, but it pays off twice: fewer moving parts means fewer things that can break, and fewer places your activity can leak.
Standing on the shoulders of
Sifa exists because of the open source community. Every layer of our stack, from the operating system to the icons in the interface, is built and maintained by people who share their work freely. We are grateful to them and would not be able to build Sifa without.
