LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding. The goal of the LAME project is to improve the psycho acoustics, quality and speed of MP3 encoding. Note: we provide source code only!

Greenstone is a complete digital library creation, management and distribution package created and distributed by the New Zealand Digital Library Project. There are two major versions of the software. Greenstone 3 is under active development, and is recommended for download. We also provide maintenance releases for its forerunner, Greenstone 2. FLAC is a free lossless compressed audio format which supports streaming and archival. The FLAC project maintains the format and provides a reference encoder/decoder and input plugins for several popular audio players.

As Speek's celebrated FLAC Frontend hasn't been updated for 10 years, things started to get a little buggy with new Windows versions. This remake fixes most issues. FLAC Frontend is a convenient way for Windows users not used to working with command lines to use the official FLAC tools. It accepts WAVE, W64, AIFF and RAW files for encoding and outputs FLAC or OGG-FLAC files. It is able to decode FLAC files, test them, fingerprint them and re-encode them. It has drag-and-drop support too.

Lepton image compression, saving 22% losslessly from images at 15MB/s. Lepton achieves a 22% savings reduction for existing JPEG images, by predicting coefficients in JPEG blocks and feeding those predictions as context into an arithmetic coder. Lepton preserves the original file bit-for-bit perfectly. It compresses JPEG files at a rate of 5 megabytes per second and decodes them back to the original bits at 15 megabytes per second, securely, deterministically, and in under 24 megabytes of memory. We have used Lepton to encode 16 billion images saved to Dropbox, and are rapidly recoding our older images. Lepton has already saved Dropbox multiple petabytes of space. At Dropbox, the security and durability of your data are our highest priorities. As an added security layer, Lepton runs within seccomp to disable all system calls except read and write of already-open file descriptors. Lepton has gone through a rigorous automated testing process.

minidjvu is a DjVu encoder for black-and-white images.

The GK3 Tools project is a collection of tools and utilities useful for viewing and modifying the Gabriel Knight 3 data files.

FreeBurn is a free (as in GNU) disc writing application for Windows and Linux (and other UNIX platforms) that provides a friendly yet powerful interface as a front end to the free CD creation tools.

The BackupTool was developed using Qt/C++ and the libraries QuaZip and zLib. It is a tool to help the backup control. The user can backup files and folders in .zip or .iso file. The backup contains date and time of its creation and the user can also write a description that will be saved inside the backup file. The software also offers a recovery tool from an existing backup (for .zip files) and the possibility of burning CD/DVD in case of .iso files. The version used in the project was: QuaZip 0.7.2 and zLib 1.2.8.

CdFly is a crossplatform CD collection manager written in c++ using the brand-new qt4 library by trolltech and storing its data in a sqlite3 database. Supported platforms are Linux and Windows. Mac OS X should work too but is not tested.
