CacheGuard-OS, amongst other functions, embeds a Web Gateway allowing you to have control over what type of Web content is allowed in your organization, by whom and when. The Web Gateway works as a transparent or explicit Web proxy and blocks malware and other unwanted contents such as ads or adult websites at gateway even in an encrypted format (HTTPS). This is a Linux based VM that is intended as a way to get security researchers started with simple botnet research. It also requires the researcher have some ability to assess and exploit vulnerabilities, with the ultimate goal of obtaining root access to the VM. This is the second of many to come, please feel free to supply feedback so I can make future ones more enjoyable and fulfilling. The network configuration of the VM is set to auto, so it is easiest to run with some sort of DHCP server on the same network(or just select the NAT option in your virtualization software). It is suggested that you use the NAT option along with port forwarding, but as long as you have TCP access to the VM, you should be fine. There are no supplied credentials, and it is intended that the network services on the VM are the attack vectors. If you have questions, feel free to ask in #vulnhub on freenode(I'm bwall on there). It uses Libvirt driver [30] to interact with Qemu and to interact with its virtualization capabilities of a range of operating systems. Libvirt provides a common, generic and stable layer to securely manage domains on a node. As nodes may be remotely located, libvirt provides all APIs required to provision, create, modify, monitor, control, migrate and stop the domains, within the limits of hypervisor support for these operations. Although multiple nodes may be accessed with libvirt simultaneously, which help in maintain the Host remotely, which is the basic requirement of cloud controller. Low latency, high bandwidth IP for virtual machines
MQNIC ( Message Queue NIC ) Virtual Link Layer The Message Queue NIC project provides a virtual link layer for qemu/kvm based virtual machines. The virtual link layer provides transport using the Apache ActiveMQ message server or other message bus and eliminates the need for external IP infrastructure to support VM deployments. Based on the ivshmem technology originally developed by Cam Macdonell the mqnic drivers use zero copy vm<->host data transfers and the apache message server to provide low latency, high bandwidth IP support for virtual data centers while simplifying the provisioning of hosted IP. Because the Message Queue NIC appears as a standard IP device on the target machine the integration of MQNIC and traditional IP routing is completely managed by the standard IP routing tools and infrastructure. Transport security is handled by the MQ server which supports multiple levels of encryption and authentication. -
