About fydeOS
FydeOS is a lightweight operating system with a Linux kernel + browser platform + container technology driver; its use is very similar to Google Chrome OS. FydeOS can run smoothly on most mainstream hardware. Hardware devices installed with FydeOS can perfectly support the latest web application standards, are compatible with Android programs and Linux environments, and can be used in network environments in China without any obstacles, providing a Google Chromebook-like experience. FydeOS is based on the second development of The Chromium Projects. We have modified and optimized its kernel, based on the most optimized browser platform, and added more localization enhancements that conform to the habits of users in China and improve user experience. Cloud technology operating system that truly meets the needs of the Internet era. After a long time of accumulation of technology, we can make FydeOS run in more types of hardware devices and provide an overall solution around FydeOS.

"Just shy of completely nailing it" Posted 2022-11-02
Pros: I have a Chromeboook but like most owners wanted ChromeOS on a standard laptop to truly unleash its full potential without paying through the nose. this OS is the closest complete easy solution to achieving this. I installed is on a 3rd generation intel laptop and installed the freeish version which is in fact completely free to download. You will need belena etcher to burn to usb. The install is easy and asks you to set a local account or fydeOS online account which is brilliant. I chose local like most would. Its very quick and the whole lot was complete in under 5 minutes.
I installed the Intel image which was designed for my laptop but you can also get for AMD processors and vmWare ova's. The ova failed on deployment but you can extract the contents and deploy the ovf. It does not play well with vCenter 7 as the cpu spikes to over 8GHz.
The desktop is the same as ChromeOS 102 as it is build from chromium os 102 in version 15.1. I did not have any issues setting up. the linux subsystem was the same to enable and developer mode is enabled with no boot delay as we see in the Chromebook if the same is enabled. The app store is not installed but if you go into the fydeOS store, the option to install gapps is there and it works perfectly fine. Even some apps that are not available on ChromeOS are there but some don't work as they crash when opening such as megasync which is expected behaviour as this happens in the real ChromeOS too when you install from apk. The added bonus here is that the right click works here as well as the two finger tap for the right click as Chromeboook owners would know. Bluetooth and sound work as expected, in fact I could not find anything that did not work from a hardware perspective and was like using a Chromebook. If you like ChromeOS, you will like this and it works just like the real ChromeOS.Cons: Can only install the full version of chrome on the Linux subsystem.
The OneDrive app does not work properly and hangs on reboot with annoying abort messages.
There is no G drive built into the file manager which is on ChromeOS.
Some app store apps available wont work but this is expected behaviour.Overall: For those who want ChromeOS on your laptop, this is the one. The flags are all there for customisation and it works great on old hardware. The cons all have workarounds in some form so its a no brainer. Well impressed with it.
