ipcop-devel Mailing List for IPCop Firewall

I did not write the installer, just the gui pieces and the accompaning C
wrappers.

As for the files not showing up in the edit page, make sure the owner of the
files is nobody:nobody
Basically as a rule of thumb, anything that is edited or modified by the
ipcop gui needs the ownership to be user nobody as this is the user that
apache is running under.

Double check your ownerships.

Also make sure that the dansguardian.conf file points to the right directory
for each file - I think most live in /etc/dansguardian

The ownership thing is something that I overlooked, basically I sent the
bits and pieces of the GUI over to Gavin and said here you go, this is where
it all lives. I neglected to tell him about the ownership.

Thanks for the heads up - I need to rebuild my dev box anyways the hard
drive is making a nice clinking noise and seems to be doing it more
frequently - time for a change.

Would it be more advisable to use Redhat 7.3 as it would have newer rpms, or
go with 7.2 and update the rpms?

I've worked out what this is - the problem is that if you don't have any usb
facilities on your pc the installer get's stuck in an endless loop

TO the person that mentioned a day or so ago that they could not build 1.3 -
freeswan fails - I too get the same error, yet the earlier releases built
fine.

There is nothing in the log that points you in the right direction, the last

The problem seems to be surrounding pluto - it is not there in the pluto
directory which means it did not compile.

I went to the temp build dir, cd to super-freeswan*

I did a make clean
and then a make program

...simply comment out last entry in /etc/makedev.d/redhat in your system,
then it 'll work.
I don't know exactly what that optimization for, but you don't need it even
compiling a new Kernel on your installed system.

Hi All.

Well, I'm slowly making progress...

According to Red Hat Network, I have the latest glibc and gd rpm's, namely
glibc-2.2.5-42 and gd-1.8.4-4.

I still have build errors like:
  /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.11187: /sbin/chkconfig: No such file or directory
  error: execution of %post scriptlet from dhcp-2.0pl5-8 failed, exit status
127

I think these are causing problems later on.



But it seems like I've resolved some of my problems...
In make.sh, it calls MAKEDEV like

net/network.a(ipsec.o): In function `ipsec_rj_walker_delete':
$TMPDIR/build/dev/MAKEDEV -m 16 -d $TMPDIR/build/dev -c
$BUILDDIR/etc/makedev.d \
        std console >> $LOGFILE 2>&1

This runs the MAKEDEV from the distribution, and tells it to use the
makedev.d from $BUILDDIR. This last part, however, isn't working. It does in
fact pickup the makedev.d directory from the host operating system. Replace
that with the makedev.d directory from the temporary build, and the build
process continues, until:

  ipsec.o(.text+0x14d4): undefined reference to `memset'
  ipsec.o(.text+0x14e5): undefined reference to `memset'
  make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

During the kernel link.

Hmm, this is a little more fatal...



Has anyone compiled this with RH 7.3?

cvs.sourceforge.net is still valid, just not from the shell or
webservers.  The browse cvs connects from the outside and connects to
cvs.sourceforge.net.  It's working for me now.

However, I did change the cvs grab scripts a while ago.  These are the
scripts that create the cvs snapshots.  Since they run on the shell
servers, they needed modification.

I have found Redhat 7.2 with the latest GLIBC libraries and GD libraries has
worked well for me on the 1.2pre4, 1.2 and 1.3 versions.

sure I had the appropriate RPMs that it needed and it compiled first time.
The same went for version 1.3alpha.

Unless you actually want the pdf file, you could just remove it from 
the source file.
It wont download it then.

I think you might also be able to touch the file, that way it will 
think it has already downloaded it.

You might find the ipfwd has a new release and you need to get that.

Yes, yet someone else attempting to compile ipcop V1.2. Yep, there's a couple of
things that I need to check with 1.2 before I attempt/attack 1.3. I've struck a
few problems, and I'm using a plaing vanilla version of RedHat 7.3 workstation.

These would appear to be wrong, as they're now:

Also missing is
 http://www.cag.lcs.mit.edu/~cananian/Projects/IPfwd/release/ipfwd-1.0.0.tar.gz

which doesn't seem to be reachable at all at present. I've checked on google,
but can't find this tarball. Anyone got any ideas where to get it? Possibly
Email to me?

Hopefully I'll be able to work through all the other issues, once I've got the
files....

I have a problem with compling the ipcop, i downloaded the cvs, i had 
problems installing rpms, help that by installing gmp etc ent rpmlib etc. 
Now i have i problem with say /usr/sbin/ld -lc not found.
can some help me with this problem, i want to build ipcop with the nmporxy 
installed which requirs xinetd. HELP please i have mandrake 9.0. what rpms 
do i have to install more?

No, we're not going to wait ;)
The 2.2 kernel is getting outdated quickly and the 2.4 kernels have 
finally become stable without major bugs or issues (except for the ext3 bug).

The networking in 2.4 gives us so much possibilities over 2.2 that we 
can't let it lay around for so long.  Besides, if you look at how long it 
took for 2.4 to become stable after 2.4.1, a stable 2.6 may even be 1,5 
years away.

Yes, it will most likely have slightly higher minimum system 
requirements and yes, it may be about a year before the 2.5 kernel is 
considered stable, but the speed improvements that are present with the 
newer kernels are phenomenal.  I really think it would be worth the 
wait on this one.
