    Truly multi-physics finite element modeling package that is open source. It contains solvers for heat transfer, elastic mechanics, incomprehensible flow (navier-stokes and turbulent flow), compressible flow, electrostatics (electromagnetics), electroosmotic flow, acoustic waves and combinations among them. My update: Check the tutorial out on their main site (I just google: elmer fem). You will find superb examples, step by step. Want to learn a bit more physics from a complete different perspective? Install this software and go through the tutorials. I am really happy with it. Thanks.

    The most developed open source fem project. All the better projects i've seen were commercial.
