SystemRescue is a Linux system rescue disk available as a bootable CD-ROM or USB stick for administrating or repairing your system and data after a crash. It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the hard disk partitions.

It comes with a lot of software such as disk management tools (parted, partimage, fsarchiver, filesystem tools, ...), network administration programs and simple text editors . It can be used for both Linux and windows computers, and on desktops as well as servers.

This rescue system requires no installation as it can be booted from a CD/DVD drive, and USB stick, or from the network using PXE. But it can be installed on the hard disk if you wish. It comes with up to date kernels to provide support for recent hardware and also for all important file systems (ext2/ext3/ext4, xfs, btrfs, ntfs, reiserfs, vfat), as well as network filesystems (samba and nfs).

User Reviews

  • Have used it for years. Love it!
  • Excellent all-purpose repair collection!
  • Wonderfully useful project! Has helped me recover so many machines... However, since it's only every few years I need to use it, I keep forgetting one extremely important detail -- and I think the project needs to document this for users in BIG RED letters: ** 'chroot' WILL NOT WORK unless you name the volume of the USB key to which SystemRescue is installed a very specific name, being the version of SystemRescue itself, for example (as of May/June 2024) RESCUE1101 If you install to a USB key without setting the volume name, this image will not work!
  • great
  • I use it a lot. As a standalone I can use it to check setting on many of Linux machines when they act up. Necessary tool for anyone using PCs or Laptops.
