Thank you. I do really appreciate your efforts. At least I now have the workaround, and I know quite a bit more so it's possible that I still might come up with the answer at some point! Leila
Hi, I wrote this post last week but I guess I didn't press the button. 🙃 I tried the 4L and 5L drivers and there was no change. I debugged the 6L with new print settings. Still showed 32 bits. I debugged the Laserjet 1200 and I could not find mention of bits in log. I debugged 6L with a print out from preview and it shows 8 bits. I suppose I will use the workaround of printing pdfs through preview for now, and do some research on the 32 bit issue. Thanks! Leila
Thanks again for more troubleshooting! I used the settings as suggested but got the same all black print. I still have some following up to do. I will do the debug test for the 6L with that setting, and for the 1200, and try the 4L or 5L driver.
Thank you~ I wouldn't be surprised if this was where I went wrong because the issue arose after I was trying to get the other two old HP laser printers to print well and I was messing with the settings, including color management. However, I don't see anything referring to 8 or 16 bits. I'll post some screenshots of the options in case anything sticks out to you;)
It would be nice if that were the Big Clue. I double checked all the images and they are 8 bit in photoshop. Not sure how else to check them. Also, the image tested was a jpeg, which has to be 8 bit, am I correct? \'printertesting.jpg\' \'1\' <args> D [31/Mar/2022:18:02:08 -0400] [Job 31] Gutenprint: using PPD file /private/etc/cups/ppd/HP_LaserJet_6L.ppd</args> I tested the 1200 with generic PCL and postcript drivers, the HP driver and the Gutenprint driver. One of the generic drivers didn't work...
Hmm, that's interesting because in photoshop, all my images are set to 8 bits/channel. Or is there some other setting?
Thank you! I really appreciate your taking the time to walk me through this. Funny, I was thinking that the more specific the problem, the easier it would be to diagnose, but what you said makes sense. Attaching the log file.
Hi Matt, Thank you for your response! I just saw it today. I was using HP LaserJet 6L + Gutenprint v5.3.3 but I did try the general postscript and reverting back to 5.2 which I was using before the issue started. (Also created a partition of previous os (el capitan) for testing. Yes, I got out the HP Laserjet 1200 and tried all 4 driver options. The main issue with that printer is that the image quality is terrible....dotty and faint. Economode is off. The image quality using the general PCL driver...
