I’m Sladyn Nunes, a software engineer based in the Bay Area and currently working as a Production Engineer at Meta. Most of my work sits at the intersection of software, infrastructure, and reliability, where understanding what happens underneath a system becomes just as important as building it.
Whenever I use a piece of software, I usually end up wondering what is happening behind the scenes. How does a process move from user space into the kernel? What happens when a distributed system loses a node? Why does a model produce one token instead of another? I like starting with the high-level picture and then going through each layer until the system begins to make sense.
I earned an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. Along the way, I contributed to open-source projects across Jenkins, nvm, and the Linux ecosystem. Open source taught me that reading unfamiliar code, asking simple questions, and learning how a project fits together are as important as writing the final change.
This website is a record of what I’m learning. I write about Linux, distributed systems, debugging, infrastructure, and AI systems. The goal is to take ideas that initially feel like a black box, break them into smaller parts, and build a clear understanding from there.
Outside engineering, I follow Arsenal, read widely, and enjoy learning from first principles. You can find me on GitHub and LinkedIn, or email me at nunes.sladyn@gmail.com.
