Gauntlet Easily one of the best albums of yesteryear. This one grows infectiously with each passing listen. Stunning instrumentation and detailed songwriting, scathing bright vocal performances, and an atmoshere that takes you exactly where it wants you to be. The sauntering, creeping clean guitars give this a uniquely folklore-imbued feel that you can just fall into. An immediate classic. Favorite track: IX.

about

This is the bands first full-length album following the I EP released in 2020. It is a majestic and mysterious sojourn of melodies through the landscapes and folklore of ancient Scotland.

Sluagh's debut album is an utter melodious masterpiece, technical yet not in an overly meticulous way where details lose sight of the whole, as can often happen with this style of black metal.
Nor does melody fall into the trap of the benign or the unfortunate cheerfulness that plagues so many subpar melodic black metal acts, but maintains the sonic mystery, despair and triumph that was so essential in great bands from the 90s like Ulver, Kvist, or Strid.
