Seasoning your smithey
Like a classic car or a well-tended garden, your Smithey gives back what you put into it.
SEASONING METHODS
SEASONING ON THE STOVETOP
Step-by-Step Guide
- Let the pan cool slightly, then rinse with hot water and a brush or scrubber. A small amount of dish soap is perfectly fine when needed.
- Towel dry thoroughly, then apply a very thin layer of seasoning oil or a dime-size of a high-smoke-point oil to cover the surface of the pan.
- Place the lightly oiled pan over medium-high heat until it begins to smoke. Repeat as needed—and keep cooking to build your seasoning over time.
